Your life is good
You have enough money for your needs. So why on earth would you want to live in your car for six months a year… especially if you and your partner are in your 60’s like us?
Because it is awesome that’s why. Give me a chance to explain.
Traveling Africa in an old Land Rover
Bottom line you can live visiting the best parts of Africa in a fully kitted (outfitted) old Land Rover sleeping in a roof top tent (sometimes amongst the lions) and enjoy most of the comforts of home. It is known throughout the world as OVERLANDING.
Sure, it’s full time camping. But with your own four-wheel drive; you, your mate, and your fridge can go anywhere you can possibly imagine. From the depths of the Kalahari to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro… well not there.
Is there a bit of room for some adventure in your life? Oh the places you will go, the people you will meet, and the cultures you will experience. This is definitely not your standard couch potato experience or writing your memoirs of the life you had. It is a true second wind experience especially if you combine it with giving back wherever you go.
A few Overlanding Details
I know, your mate may not be the rugged type, or doesn’t like to get dirty but likes a bit of pampering. Not a problem. Most nice Lodges have camping associated with them. Where for $15-$35/night you still enjoy most of the amenities including bad WIFI.
Did I mention that our roof top tent has a queen size bed and total screening for stargazing and wild game viewing?
Isn’t it dangerous out there? Sure. Are there scary places in your country too? You will learn to avoid or cope, and gear yourself up for the new but scalable challenges awaiting you. Like lions and elephant in our camp maybe!
Believe me it’s good to get the old heart pumping once in a while and there are plenty of travelers along the way willing to share their insights in person or online… Like us for instance.
Wouldn’t it be a shame to miss the adventure out of fear?
So, you got it? 6 months traveling in Africa or wherever you feel like it. And 6 months in your homeland visiting the grandkids or your best friends forever. And most important, the traveling includes giving back.
Oh the places we have gone and are going. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.
ENJOY THE DAY AND DO GOOD!
